Post-Soviet challenges brought market losses but also spurred a renewed focus on quality.

Moldova adopted EU-based Protected Geographical Indications for key regions (Codru, Valul lui Traian, Ștefan Vodă) and established the National Office for Vine and Wine.

Moldovan wine was served to Emperor Nicholas II, as well as King George V and Queen Victoria of Great Britain.
